WhatsApp auto-reply messages for business: 30 samples to copy (English and Hindi)

Rohan Tiwarekar · 29 Oct 2026

A good WhatsApp auto-reply does three things in one or two lines: it says thanks, it says when a real person will reply, and it gives one next step, like a booking link or a short menu. Below are 30 messages you can copy as they are, in English and Hindi, for greetings, after-hours, common questions and follow-ups. Swap the words in [brackets] for your own.

How to set up auto-replies in the free WhatsApp Business app

Open WhatsApp Business, go to Settings (on iPhone) or the three-dot menu (on Android), then Business tools. You'll find three tools:

  1. Greeting message. Goes out on its own when someone messages you for the first time, or after about 14 days of no messages.
  2. Away message. Goes out on its own outside the hours you set, so nobody waits in silence at night or on a holiday.
  3. Quick replies. Saved answers you send yourself by typing "/" in a chat. They're fast, but not automatic.

Menu names change a little between app versions, so if you don't see a label, search the settings for "greeting" or "away".

Where the free app stops: it can't answer a real question, book a slot or follow up a day later. For that you need the WhatsApp Business API connected to a follow-up flow. That's the part we set up for clients.

  2. Hi [name], we have two slots open this week: [day, time] and [day, time]. Should I hold one for you?
  3. Hi [name], here's what [a customer like you] said after their visit: "[short review]". Want to book?
  4. Hi [name], quick question: is [service] still something you're looking for? A simple yes or no helps us.
  5. Hi [name], I won't keep messaging. If you need us later, just reply here and we'll pick it up. Have a great week!

Three rules for any auto-reply

  • Say when a human will reply. "Shortly" means nothing. "Within 10 minutes" or "by 11am tomorrow" sets the right expectation.
  • Give one next step. A link, a menu or one question. Never a wall of text.
  • Keep the promise. If the message says 10 minutes, reply in 10 minutes. A broken promise does more harm than no auto-reply.

Common questions

Does a WhatsApp auto-reply work when my phone is off? In the free app, auto-replies depend on your phone being online. With the WhatsApp Business API, replies run from a server, so your phone can be off.

Can I send a different auto-reply for each question? Not in the free app. It sends the same greeting to everyone. A follow-up flow on the API can answer each question differently and hand the rest to your team.

How many follow-ups is too many? We stop after four messages over about a week, or as soon as someone says no. Message 30 above is a polite way to close the loop.

Want replies that answer real questions and follow up on their own, without you watching the phone? Book a call and we'll show you how it would work for your business.
